MISSION STATEMENT

Moving Orphans’ Mountains seeks to empower local churches to introduce orphans and vulnerable children to their Heavenly Father through the gospel of Jesus Christ and help them grow as sons and daughters in God's family.

So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."

THE PROBLEM

Sadly, the world is filled with precious children who have been orphaned as a result of this broken world. According to Unicef, it is estimated that there are 153 million orphaned children in the world. Some of the leading causes of children becoming orphans are war, natural disaster, poverty, and disease. We believe the family is a divinely ordained institution that plays a critical role in the upbringing of children and the thriving of societies in general. Many of the problems we see in society can be traced back to familial problems and it is often the children that suffer the most creating a ripple effect for generations. The problems that exist today are a result of sins compounding upon sins generation after generation for thousands of years. What we are left with is a very broken world filled with tragedy and all kinds of suffering. The problems are made worse in that the world often looks in the wrong place for solutions.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

THE SOLUTION

The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, when properly headed by Christ, is the solution. The Church is the body of Christ and it is a gift from God to this world. It is sovereignly pre-ordained to carry on the mission and message of Christ and ultimately usher in His Kingdom one day where God will make all things right and wipe away every tear. In the meantime, the Church is called to be the embodiment of Christ which means we as individual members of the Church ought to be working together in unity to collectively display Christ's love to a perishing world. We were once ourselves orphans in this world but have been recipients of God’s deep love for us when He adopted us into a familial inheritance of everlasting life! What better way to demonstrate to the world that which we have received than to treat the orphans in this world as our own family?! So how do we do this practically? Not everyone has the opportunity or ability to take in orphans into their own homes. We believe the generosity and interconnectedness of the early church demonstrates how true, Biblical, gospel-preaching churches today ought to be united in this to better minister the gospel to orphans/vulnerable children all around the world. Through a very complicated series of events, we believe God has taken us on a journey to demonstrate to us the flaws in all the many ways the world tries to care for orphans simply to show us that we have over-complicated things and are over-looking the solution that He has given us all along - the Church!

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

OUR ROLE

In our experience in orphan-care so far, we have observed first-hand two major problems related to the Church’s response to its call to care for orphans – Lack of Provisions and Lack of Proximity.

Lack of Provisions

On the one hand, in more impoverished places where there tends to be a higher rate of orphans, the faithful ministries/churches that DO exist and have a passion for ministering the gospel to orphans and vulnerable children do not have the provisions to carry out their passion to do so. While some good orphanages do exist, the corruption of many orphanages makes matters worse by concealing the children from faithful ministries/churches due to partiality towards far away sources of wealth that do not come with community accountability.

Lack of Proximity

On the other hand, in wealthier countries where there tends to be a lower rate of orphans, the faithful churches and people who are willing and able to help are either scared away by the corruption or they end up feeding right into it making matters worse. These areas also tend to have more government involvement in orphan care which is good in many ways, but it also makes it difficult for an individual/church to get involved in orphan-care locally.

In addition to observing these imbalances within the Church, we believe God has also shown us the flaws in many of the world’s attempts to solve this problem. While many orphanages are well-intending, they do not seem to be a good solution because they cannot properly fill the void of the family. Exclusively humanitarian efforts are deficient as well because the children's needs are more than material. The prevalence of poor doctrine, false teaching, and unbiblical churches complicate matters even more. Even sponsorship programs come with the risk of teaching children to idolize the distant donor and look to them to be more than they can possibly be from thousands of miles away living in an entirely different culture. They can also leave unsponsored children sad and wondering what is wrong with them and why they can’t get a sponsor. While all of these attempts do a lot of good, we believe the Church is the best solution, and so the Church should be our focus.

We believe God has called us to bridge the gap between the two major problems listed above (lack of provisions and lack of proximity). We want to identify and connect faithful churches on either side of this problem so they can empower one another in their gospel ministry to orphans/vulnerable children. Churches on either side of this problem have something to offer churches on the other side, and it is our prayer and hope that we can promote gospel ministry to orphans/vulnerable children through local churches as we believe God intends it to be in this time between Jesus’ first and second coming. We hope to serve churches who have proximity without provisions by connecting them to churches that can help them receive the provisions they lack, and we hope to serve churches who have provisions without proximity by connecting them to churches who have the proximity they lack. In these ways, we hope to promote unity and equality within the global Church to build up the church and help it to grow. We believe together we can work towards a better, more united, and interconnected universal Church of the Lord Jesus Christ to the benefit of orphans and vulnerable children all over the world and to the glory of God.

Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.

MOVING ORPHANS' MOUNTAINS AT A GLANCE

We are a nuclear family of five people who have experienced the many benefits of a stable family home but have also seen far too many examples of tragedy related to broken families. We seek to utilize the blessings God has given us to try to bear some of the burdens of the victims of broken families in an effort to follow the calling of God’s precious Word to care for orphans and vulnerable children.

WHO WE SERVE

It is our desire to see the gospel of Jesus Christ reach orphans and vulnerable children all across the globe in both word and deed through the Church. God has shown us that the best way to help orphans/vulnerable children was to direct our focus towards the empowerment of good, Biblical, gospel-preaching churches with sound doctrine so that more orphans/vulnerable children can be reached with the gospel. We are currently working with two churches in Jinja, Uganda where our work with an orphanage first began, but our hope is to one day be able to empower the Church wherever God will allow.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

You have the opportunity to make a significant difference! The best way for you to help orphans/vulnerable children, whether they be in your midst or on the other side of the world, is to pour yourself into your own local church that it might be built up to expand the gospel in both word and deed to orphans/vulnerable children in some way. If you desire to do more than that, you can talk to your church about prayerfully considering partnering with us so that we can unite together to move orphans’ mountains!

FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY

We are committed to purposing 100% of all donations we receive (less fees) to partner churches. We are committed to integrity, honesty, accountability, and transparency for ourselves and the churches we partner with. You can find all of our financial documents and 501(c)(3) documents on our website. If you can’t find something, feel free to contact us!
